Something Musk Be Done: Innovative Takeover?
Twitter has officially reached a deal with Elon Musk. Whether or not you agree with Musk’s desire to “promote more free speech” or not, there’s something unique about how quickly the business world moves toward innovation in comparison to government bureaucracy. When someone feels change needs to happen, it can happen in the span of a week.
Not that any person with significant funds should be able to take over, but what if innovation could move faster in our school systems? Several years ago, The Washington Post featured a story about children freezing in their Baltimore classrooms. Families set up crowd-sourcing websites for coats and space heaters, but no true systematic change occurred.
One of the most difficult spaces to make change today is in the sphere of education. With government bureaucracy and red tape bogging down the public school system, it is hard for any innovation to happen. We need to allow funding to flow to schools that can bypass the bureaucracy.
